  • BLEND INFORMATION

    *Ginger Root/Powder (Zingiber officinalis)

    USES/BENEFITS: Ginger is a warming herb; it has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, and is therefore known to relieve headaches, migraines, and fever.

    CONTRAINDICATIONS: Do not take ginger in medicinal doses if suffering from peptic ulcers; patients with gallstones and/or bleeding disorders should avoid ginger; use caution or avoid in pregnancy and during breastfeeding; may interact with NSAID's, anticoagulants, insulin, hypoglycemics, and cyclosporine.

     

    *Lavender (Lavendula spp.)

    USES/BENEFITS: Lavender is a cooling herb that soothes and calms the nervous system; it is commonly combined with other sedative herbs to help relieve sleeplessness, irritability, headaches and migraines.

    CONTRAINDICATIONS: Dermatitis has been reported in those allergic to lavender; avoid excessive amounts if pregnant or breastfeeding; may interact with medications such as sedatives, CNS depressants, and anticonvulsants.

     

    *Peppermint (Mentha piperita)

    USES/BENEFITS: Peppermint is a cooling herb that relieves pain and reduces sensitivity; it helps to relieve headaches and migraines linked to digestive weakness. 

    CONTRAINDICATIONS: Children under five years of age should not take peppermint; patients with known or suspected hiatal hernia or gastroesophageal reflux should avoid peppermint; may interact with medications such as cyclosporine.

     

    *Valerian Root (Valeriana officinalis)

    USES/BENEFITS: typically used as a sedative and a relaxant; it is a safe and non-addictive herb used to reduce nervous tension and relieve anxiety; it relaxes the nerves, and is helpful for muscle/joint pain (particularly back pain), headaches and migraines.

    CONTRAINDICATIONS: Can cause drowsiness; do not take if already using sleep-inducing medications; discontinue use at least one week before surgery, as valerian can interact with anesthesia; patients with liver or pancreatic disease should avoid using valerian; may interact with medications such as barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and haloperidols.

     

    *Willow Bark (Salix alba)

    USES/BENEFITS: original source of salicylic acid (a strongly anti-inflammatory and analgesic compound); eases inflammation in joints and tendons, and provides relief from all sorts of pain, such as headache, migraine, toothache, backache, and arthritis.

    CONTRAINDICATIONS: Avoid if allergic to salicylates such as aspirin; children under 12 years of age should not use willow bark; may interact with medications such as warfarin/anticoagulants; discontinue use one week before chemotherapy and surgery.
