Astragalus Root (Astragalus membranaceus)

USES/BENEFITS: A warm herb that supports normal kidney function, and is thought to protect the kidneys from damage; a useful diuretic that stabilizes patients with chronic kidney disease.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: May cause fatigue, low blood pressure, or headache; do not take astragalus if suffering from skin disorders, or during acute illness.

 

Chickweed (Stellaria media)

USES/BENEFITS: an herb with diuretic properties  used to support urinary health; it is often used to treat UTI’s and cystitis; it helps to clean the kidneys by removing toxic waste from the body.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: May cause diarrhea and vomiting in excessive doses; do not take while pregnant.

 

Cleavers (Galium aparine)

USES/BENEFITS: A cooling herb that is a valuable diuretic, often taken for kidney stones and other urinary problems.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Excessive use may cause skin irritation.

 

Damiana (Turnera diffusa)

USES/BENEFITS: A diuretic and urinary antiseptic; useful in the treatment of infections such as cystitis and urethritis.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Diabetic and hypoglycemic patients should consult with their doctor before use; avoid in pregnancy.

 

Hibiscus Flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa)

USES/BENEFITS: has diuretic properties and detoxifies the body; prevents bacterial growth in the urinary tract.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Avoid if patient is on blood pressure or blood sugar medication; do not take with tylenol; avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding; should not be given to children under six years of age.

 

Uva Ursi (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi)

USES/BENEFITS: One of the best natural urinary antiseptics; used extensively in herbal medicine to disinfect and astringe the urinary tract; may have an antibacterial effect.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Do not take during pregnancy, or with kidney disease; unsuitable for children under 12 years of age; consult your doctor if taking for longer than 10 days at a time.
