BLEND INFORMATION
*Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
USES/BENEFITS: Chamomile is a relaxant herb; it is a strong antispasmodic that eases tense muscles and period pain; chamomile reduces irritability and nervous tension, and also promotes sleep; it is especially helpful for children.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Those allergic to ragweed, mugwort pollen, or members of the Compositae family (such as chrysanthemums) should likely avoid this herb; take only on professional advice if using blood-thinning medication; may interact with medications such as cyclosporine, sedatives, anticoagulants, and cytochrome P450 substrates.
*Lavender (Lavendula spp.)
USES/BENEFITS: Lavender is a cooling herb known best for its relaxing properties; it has a soothing and calming effect that acts on the nervous system, and helps to relieve sleeplessness, irritability, headaches, migraines, and depression.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Dermatitis has been reported in those allergic to lavender; avoid excessive amounts if pregnant or breastfeeding; may interact with medications such as sedatives, CNS depressants, and anticonvulsants.
*Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
USES/BENEFITS: A great herb to help lift the spirits that is believed to encourage longevity when taken regularly; helpful for anxiety, mild depression, restlessness, and irritability; it reduces feelings of nervousness and panic, and can quiet a racing heart; also useful when too much anxiety causes digestive issues, such as indigestion, acidity, nausea, bloating, and colic.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: May interact with sedative/CNS depressant medications.
*Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata)
USES/BENEFITS: Passion flower is known for its sedative, antispasmodic, tranquilizing and sleep-inducing properties; it is effective in relieving anxiety and panic, and improves sleep quality; helpful for insomnia and disturbed sleep patterns; a good medicine for anxiety, tension, irritability, and a great pain reliever (toothache, period pain, headaches, etc).
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Can cause drowsiness; do not take in high doses during pregnancy; may interact with medications such as pentobarbital, benzodiazepines, azithromycin, and St John's Wort herb.
